Three years have passed since four Americans were killed in the 2012 attack in Benghazi. And all 32 hearings held by 10 different congressional committees arrived at the same result: neither the Dept. of State nor the White House did anything to cause it, or knew anything about it in time. And there was nothing that President Obama and Sec. of State Clinton could have done to prevent it, either.
That hasnt stopped the Republican Party from pursuing this tragedy for its own gain, however.
Theyve arranged for 171 witnesses to testify at 32 hearings, which to date has cost American taxpayers $6 million, according to Correct The Record, a group researching all the muss and fuss created by the Benghazi! Benghazi! Benghazi! circus show.
And if you thought this freak exhibition was only staged by the GOP to cover up its own responsibility (like, cutting the budget for consul security by $330 million before the attack, and despite Clintons direct appeal to House GOP to reinstate those funds), then think again. When they first started this circus in late 2012, it was only to improve their stock in that years elections, it seems. And their continued use of this leaky platform since then? To attack Clintons 2016 presidential campaign, we now know.
On a September 29 broadcast on Fox News, Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-California) openly stated that the sole purpose of continuing those taxpayer-funded investigations was to weaken Clintons presidential bid. As he told Sean Hannity:
Everybody thought Hillary Clinton was unbeatable, right? But we put together a Benghazi special committee, a select committee. What are her numbers today? Her numbers are dropping.
But Clinton recently responded, and with a new campaign ad that carries a to hell with it tone. It includes McCarthys interview, along with other medias coverage of his recent audacity. While it closes with positive reflection on Clintons platform, the elbow jab to McCarthy that opens the ad still leaves the conman with a very black eye.
